For a movie called GIANT PYTHON there’s a lot of killer man-eating plants(?) and human drama, but yes true there is also a giant python but the movie is kinda completely bloodless even though all the CGI looks mostly pretty good, also one of the main girls is basically cosplaying Lara Croft which is actually kinda kool but it doesn’t change that there’s still not enough snakes killing people. >:/ There’s a really cute snake that they all become friends with though which got this movie a whole extra half-star from me bc he was such a little cutie, well not little he was also giant but not as giant as the python which I’m pretty sure was not even a python to begin with, I think it was a cobra so idk

A young boy and his Uncle ( not Third Uncle ), are fishing. The boy jumps off onto “ CANNIBAL ISLAND”, oh lovely! So the Uncle jumps back on raft and pedals away. And the boy, Jiashu is left alone on this Cannibal Island. Now the villagers are scared because a huge snake lives there. He gets rescued , becomes a researcher and goes back years later, to help people looking for a magical tree. Dumb! Not scary. CGI snake is silly. Actually I was cheering for the Python!

Jiashu! Jiashu! is yelled incessantly for the first 25 minutes, not so much after that but it’s still incredibly annoying. The main «China doll» as my dad would call her is really pretty though not as busty as on the cover. The CG is pretty decent and there’s a fair amount of action and the movie is pretty colorful overall. The dubbing is super annoying here with everyone sounding like a loud idiot or a jerk. You could easily watch this with your children as there’s no real gore, sexuality or substance abuse. Walmart gets these Chinese monster movies in every once in a while and this is the first one I kind of enjoyed, coming in at under 80…

Plot:
In a village where snake-catching is the livelihood of most of the local populace, a magical tree grew. Because of the tree’s benevolence, it saved one small snake from the villagers and named it “Little Flower”.

Many years later, Xiaoshu has become a biological researcher, exploring the secrets of genes. Unfortunately, his colleagues with ulterior motives use the power of the magical tree to break into a forbidden area by ​​the snake-catching village: the island where intruders are eaten alive. Plot summary

Surprisingly good.

After having suffered through the 2021 Chinese movie «Huge Shark», also from 2021, I must admit that I weren’t expecting this movie titled «Mutant Python» to be any better. But since I hadn’t already seen it, of course I opted to watch it.

Luckily, I have to admit that writer Zhuang Qin delivered something entertaining here with «Mutant Python». It was a fairly straight forward and enjoyable movie. The kind of movie where you just grab your snack, lean back and watch the screen. The storyline in «Mutant Python» is straight forward and doesn’t require the audience to do a whole lot of thinking.

The acting performances in the movie were fair. I wasn’t familiar with the cast ensemble in «Mutant Python», but they put on good enough performances to carry the movie. The only downside to «Mutant Python» was that I had obtained a version dubbed into English. Yeah, dubbing movies in 2021, seriously? And on top of that, it was that kind of horrible dubbing that make the actors and actresses sound like they are soulless drones high on something. A shame really, because it took away a lot of enjoyment from the movie.

Visually then I was impressed with director Er Dong’s «Mutant Python» movie, because the CGI was good and the snake looked good and sort of realistic. Well, aside from the fact that the python in the movie had a hood, for some odd reason.

If you enjoy a good old fashioned creature feature, then give «Mutant Python» a chance. I was genuinely entertained here, aside from the dubious dubbing.

My rating of «Mutant Python» lands on a six out of ten stars.
